5 Hair Products You Should Be Using
Taking care of your hair is important if you want to keep it looking healthy, and to maximize the results of your salon trips. The problem is, with so many different products, tools, and methods out there: it can be difficult to know exactly what’s best for your hair. Rather than try to give you another complicated method to keep your hair in top shape, we figured it would be a good idea to give you a back to basics foundation on the bare essentials of good hair.
We’re happy to give you some important facts on the basics, and we included a few product recommendations for quality products to add to your hair lineup.
It seems obvious, but washing your hair with a high-quality shampoo is vital. If you look at the ingredients of a salon shampoo next to a drugstore shampoo, what you see is probably similar – but the quality is nowhere near the same. Salon shampoos contain ingredients that are concentrated, meaning you use far less product to achieve the results you want. So, talk to your stylist about a high-quality shampoo that would work the best for your hair – they are trained to give you their professional recommendation!
Conditioner is necessary. The outermost layer of the hair, the cuticle, is lifted slightly to allow dirt and oil to grab onto the shampoo and be washed away. A conditioner smooths everything back down. Beware of two-in-one shampoos and conditioners, too – it’s impossible for one product to do both of these things properly (lift the cuticle, and smooth it back down). A conditioner we love at Vanity is Bumble & bumble’s Creme de Coco, which combines extracts and oils from several natural ingredients, including coconut and wild olives.
Along with keeping your hair clean and conditioned, keeping it manageable is essential. For this task, choosing a good brush is important. However, not all brushes are created equal: there are many styles of brushes out there that are made for different types of hair care. Long hair, short hair, wet hair, dry hair. Make sure to do your research before buying a brush to make sure you get the one that’s best for you. And of course, chat with your stylist! They would be happy to make a recommendation.
Our hair is subjected it to a lot of heat damage from curling irons, flat irons, and blow dryers. Using these items depletes your hair of its natural oils and proteins, causing it to weaken and break over time. That’s why it’s important to have some sort of heat protection: whether it be in the form of a spray, cream, or serum. A good protectant is essential. Try Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil/UV Protective Primer on wet hair, and then style away!
Hairspray is a crucial step in getting your hair looking just right and making it last. A good hairspray will add softness and bounce to your hair, while holding it in place. Like brushes, there are so many kinds and types of spray out there – it’s impossible to only recommend one product – but once you find the one that works best for you, you’re going to want to make it a regular part of your daily regimen. Bumble and bumble just introduced Strong Finish, and it’s a hit at Vanity.
